Sunday to San Marcos!

A better night's sleep than last night - and slept in this morning!!!
Took some photos of our 'wheels' - we 'requested' and were allotted a Ford Crown Victoria (American police car!) 4.6L V8.... in other words.... huge! To quote the B52's: 'It's as big as a whale and seats about twenty'.... What a crack up! We didn't think we would be getting such a big car - we've tried a different company this time and obviously we've ticked a wrong box somewhere... NOT that we're complaining - it's just a laugh! Mind you, I'm getting very excited about... 'the boot'! Don't say 'the boot' to an American, especially here in Texas - a boot is a boot - one of them things you go scootin' in. They call it a trunk. Even worse - don't mention putting 'a cold slab in the boot' - the Americans are mortified (as we found out!) True! But I am thinking that there is a LOT of room in that there boot and I like to shop!

So, today we departed Dallas for about a 4hr drive south to San Marcos in the New Braunfels area. Wildfires by the side of the highway in one place - lots of fire engines in attendance. It's very dry and very hot and extremely windy. To be honest, we are both a little uncomfortable in the 40 degrees celsius heat - not acclimatised - and finding our skin dry and noses dry and sore.

Saw some interesting sights along the interstate, but as we are travelling at 70mph (120km/ph) it's a bit hard for me to get photos sometimes. But I did manage this one of an old tractor which David thinks someone is taking home to restore.....

Enjoyed more 'retail therapy' this afternoon as it is the Labour Day long weekend here and Monday is a holiday. The new school year begins in most districts, on Tuesday.

Fronted the bar in a restaurant called 'Olive Garden' this evening. Great Italian and David is enjoying the 'Shiner Bock' beer which is a local Texas beer, brewed just outside of Austin. Tastes like a strong lager! I had a BIG margarita!!

  1. Good to see one photo of you with a shopping bag in your hand! Haven't seen any food pictures yet??? Just saw the Texas bushfires on the news.
    Take care.
