Departed New Braunfels, Texas, and headed north to Austin. Austin and other parts of Texas are currently under threat from wildfires. 95% of the state is in drought. It's hot, dry and windy. We were constantly being warned by signs such as the one above, about the fire danger. Smoke hung in the air smelling like hickory or mesquite. The drive to Ardmore ended up taking six hours. I ended up entertaining myself by reading billboards - and these ones from 'Chick-fil-A' are becoming my favourite. (Chick-fil-A (pronounced chick-fill-ay (as in day)) is a take away chicken joint like KFC. I love the cows and their writing encouraging people to eat more chicken! (and not beef - which would mean eating them!)...
Ended up finding a good motel in Ardmore and drove into the town area to a Mexican restaurant, 'Casa Romo' for dinner - absolutely fantastic!
